This week I was able to learn different things for my path to success.
While reading some of the chapters from George Leonard's book, "Mastery", I was able to realize about the several stages where you can be during you mastery path.
The book describes in a very interesting way what Mastery is and why we sometimes choose the easiest way instead of the long path that brings happiness and better results in our lives. It also describes the opposition to the concept itself and how to overcome those philosophies.
One of the concepts that I realized was part of my life and that I never heard before was "Homeostasis". The way George Leonard defines the word homeostasis opens our understanding and especially because, if we want to master something, we need to move from our comfort zone to a more challenging and higher level of life. Leonard says "This condition of equilibrium, this resistance to change, is called homeostasis...[it] works to keep things as they are even if they aren't very good."
After reading and understanding this concept I was able to teach some people from my workplace the reason why sometimes we have employees finding so hard to implement new strategies or procedures within the company. I believe that when you teach to someone the roots of the reasons, the why of the things, they turn to be more willing to accept that there is a condition why they are like that but also that they are able to improve, change, or revert any condition.
When we combine not only this concept but the rest found in the book plus those that Stephen Covey teach, we can take solid decisions and create a more comfortable future. Covey explains that one of the 7 habits of highly effective people is "Put first things first." I have personally applied this habit in my daily work routine. It has helped me a lot in focusing on the most urgent things. As I work as a Quality Manager I receive a lot of requests and cases to take cover, but not only that, I also need to assign to my team who is taking care of what. This type of decisions requires to understand what things go first.
I will continue to do my best trying to apply the rest of the habits...
